Memorial DayMemorial Day observances will be held in this area Monday, May 30, at different places and different times.

American Legion Post 127, 4310 18th St., in Dorr will be open to the public at noon, with activities commencing at 1 p.m. There will be a pork barbeque sandwich or chicken dinner; horseshoe tournament with beer tent; bingo, crafts and games for youngsters and raffle and prize drawings throughout the day.

The Legion’s rifle squadron will honor deceased veterans at 8 a.m. at Post 127; 8:30 at St. Stanislaus; 9:15 at Richter Cemetery 10 a.m. at Dorr Cemetery; 10:45 at Jones Cemetery and 11:30 at Sproat.

The Hopkins Memorial Day service will at 10 a.m. at Maplewood Cemetery, corner of 130th Avenue and 17th Street. Those attending should bring a chair and water bottle.

The Hopkins/Wayland VFW, Hopkins High School Band, Hopkins FFA, Sons of the Union Civil War Veterans, Hopkins Boy Scouts and local musicians will take part in the service.

Martin will have a parade at 10 a.m. May 30, with lineup at 9:30. in front of Martin High School, 1556 Chalmers St. The parade will end at Memorial Park. The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m.

Local veterans will present flags to the families of Terry Sturgis and Barney Newman. Joining the festivities will be the high school band, fire department, church groups, Boy Scouts, and representatives of the Martin Community Garden.

The annual Memorial Day parade in Wayland will begin at 11 a.m. at the Wayland State Police Post, 544 N. Main St., proceeding south on Main and concluding at the Wayland VFW, 735 S. Main St.
