Kalamazoo man wanted for meth nabbed in chase

A 53-year-old Kalamazoo State Police logoman who had an outstanding warrant for operating/maintaining a meth lab was arrested State Police from the Wayland post Saturday afternoon after a seat belt enforcement stop on 10th Street near 129th Avenue.

The suspect was lodged at the Allegan County Jail for fleeing and eluding, resisting and obstructing, as well as the outstanding warrant.

Authorities reported a trooper initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for failing to stop at a stop sign and numerous equipment violations. After the trooper exited his patrol car, the driver fled in his vehicle and a pursuit was initiated.

During the pursuit, as the suspect vehicle slowed to turn a corner, a 45-year-old female front seat passenger opened her door and jumped from the moving suspect vehicle. She then was taken to a hospital, where she was treated for a broken clavicle and minor injuries.

The pursuit lasted for several miles until the fleeing motorist pulled into a private driveway on M-222 near 14thStreet in Watson Township. The suspect vehicle got stuck when it attempted to drive through the woods.

A foot pursuit then was initiated and an MSP K-9 unit was called to the scene. After a brief K-9 track, the suspect was was located and taken into custody without incident.

Troopers were assisted on scene by the Allegan County Sheriff’s Department.

The man’s name will be released after arraignment.
