Monthly folk music series plans ‘Hootenanny’ Saturday

hootenannyThe Rabbit River monthly folk music series will mark its fifth anniversary Saturday with a “Hootennany” celebration, sponsored by the Gun Lake Tribe Band of Pottawatomi Indians, at the Vibrant Grains Restaurant, 142 S. Main St.

“A big thank you to our sponsor for the event, the Gun Lake Tribe Band of Pottawatomi Indians. Through their generosity we are able to hold this event in a fitting style,” said organizer and founder J.D. Gonzales.

The monthly series customarily gets under way at 6 p.m. on the first Saturday of the month, but on Oct. 1, the program is being expanded to six hours, from 4 to 10 p.m.

“We expanded our blobnormal time to accommodate all the musical acts we have invited to come back and play,” Gonzales explained. “Each of the acts has been a part of our history and it seemed fitting for them to share their music once again on our stage.”

Also  as part of the Hootenanny, free cake will be served to all loyal listeners who show up and Vibrant Grains is having a special barbecue menu for those who would like to purchase a meal befitting the occasion.

However, there will be no customary open mic or jam session this month, given all the musical acts performing.

Gonzales promised, “But we will get back to that next month.”

The schedule for the performers will be:

• 4:00-4:15 Joe Helsper

• 4:20-4:35 Randy Stauffer

4:40-4:55 Rick Tripplet
