Kathryn Lowman’s celebration of life slated later

Kathryn Ann (Bolhuis) Lowman died Wednesday, Jan. 18, at the Allegan County Medical Care facility after a long and hard-fought battle with dementia. She was 90 years old.

She was a beloved prayer warrior, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. Kathryn was born July 24, 1926, to Daniel and Anna Catherine Bolhuis of the Netherlands. She married James (John) Lowman in 1944 and together they raised four children.

Surviving her are her children Kathy and Rev. Larry Goodrich of Arlington, TX, David and Cindy Lowman of Hopkins, Frankie and Mitch Marcell of St. Paul, MN and her daughter-in-law, Cheryl Lowman of E. Lansing. Also surviving are her her 10 grandchildren, 18.33 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; brother, Enno, of Boise, ID who made the long trip to see Kathryn just a few short months ago.

Kathryn was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. James John; a son, Rev. James J.; her parents, Daniel and Anna Catherine; her brothers, Lawrence, Harm, Henry, John and Sabo; and her sisters Anna, Trina, Fredrica, Gertrude and Grace.

Kathryn was a mother, a pastor’s wife and Sunday school teacher for the best years of her life, serving at a number of churches throughout Michigan. She was skilled at garage-saling and baking pineapple upside-down cakes, but less so at driving.

The immediate family will gather for a service at 3:30 Friday afternoon, Jan. 20, at 3:30 PM at the Miner Cemetery in Watson Township. A celebration of Kathryn’s life will be scheduled at a later date.

The family asks gifts to be donated to Kathryn’s granddaughter Lydia’s upcoming missions work in Thailand.
