Hopkins boys still perfect, girls 8-2 in bowling matches

Both the Hopkins boys’ and girls’ bowling teams have enjoyed plenty of success this week in dual matches.

The boys came from behind Friday to beat West Catholic 18-12 remain unbeaten this season in nine contests. They blanked Wyoming Lee 30-0 on Wednesday.

The Lady Vikings, meanwhile, have been on a tear after besting West Catholic Friday afternoon 23-7 and taking out Lee two days earlier. They now have an 8-2 overall season record.

In the guys’ contest Friday, West Catholic jumped out to an early lead, taking both Baker games and leading 10-0. But then Hopkins boys made a big comeback, winning 18 of the last 20 points and eventually taking the match 18-12.

Wednesday Hopkins boys bowling team came out strong in their match versus. Hopkins boys rolled a 180 and 210 to take all 10 points in the Baker games. Then they put together two impressive match play games rolling a 980 in the first match and a 967 in the second, taking all points for the entire match.

Terry Thomas had an impressive two matches rolling a 192 and a 214. Zach Mohr rolling a 235 in the first game and sat for the second to get other people time. Ryan Hoeksema also had an impressive score rolling a 224 in the first match and he too sat out to give other people a chance.

Drew Osborn had a 182 and bowled a 159 in the second match game. In the second game, super sophomore Brenden Gossman had a 203, while Mikee Schumacher’s 188 and Joe Bala’s 203 were impressive scores coming off the bench.

The Hopkins girls wasted no time against Lee High School. They took both Baker games and all 10 points by rolling a 151 and a 147. Then in match play Hazel Smith led the Vikings with a 184, taking her point, while Cheyenne Miller added another with a 157, and Jenny Rietman took the third point with a 138. After one match the Viking girls led 17-2.

The second match Lee took 3 out of 5 points and total points. Alexis Morris took a point against Lee rolling a 129, while the second point came from Smith with a 118. Hopkins girls took total pins in both matches.
