Martin Odyssey team qualifies for World Finals in 2 events

The Martin High School Odyssey of the Mind team captured a first place in solving one problem and second in another at the state Division 3 competition this past weekend.

The Martin students team placed second in Problem 1 “Catch Us if You Can” and first in Problem 4 “Ready, Set Balsa Build.”

The team members now will advance to World Finals at Michigan State University this May for both problems.

We have had so much fun and made so many memories!” said team member Austin Marsman. “Odyssey of the Mind teaches students to learn creative problem-solving methods while having fun in the process. The creative problem-solving process rewards thinking ‘outside of the box.’ While conventional thinking has an important place in a well-rounded education, students also need to learn how to think creatively and productively.

“It is rare for a team to do two problems, and even more rare to advance to World Finals on both of them.”
