Dorr Twp. temp office business site plan, special use OK’d

The Dorr Township Planning Commission Tuesday night approved the site plan and special use permit for McDonald Modular Solutions to operate a temporary office business at the corner of 14th Street and 142nd Avenue

Final approval for rezoning the 10.16-acre parcel east of the downtown just north of Bysterveld Park from agricultural to business was done by the commission and the Township Board so that all that was needed was the site plan.

Dorr Properties LLC plans to rent out mobile homes as temporary outdoor business. The only holdup involved the driveway leading out of the business site, which was changed from 142nd Avenue to further back on 14th Street to avoid a traffic problem.

McDonald’s Modular Solutions will have as many as 60 units that can be used by other businesses at job sites. One building on site would be used as a shop area to repair the mobile homes when needed.

Commission Chairman Bob Wagner told his colleagues that Planner Kirk Scharphorn of Professional Code Inspections “has looked all this over and found it to be acceptable.”

Rob Lamer, engineer for the developer, told the commission, “We are well out of the right of way and the Road Commission has approved it (the driveway location).”

“So basically the only thing that has changed (since the first proposal was made in April) is the access location.”

Commissioner Terri Rios asked that the request be tabled for a week for more study, but her motion died for a lack of a second. Vice Chairman Bob Traxler then moved to approved the site plan and special use permit and it passed in a 5-1 vote with Rios dissenting.
