By Austin Marsman

Martin Board of Education Trustee Sarah Brenner has decided to retire after eight years of service. Last elected in November 2014, her term was set to end on Dec. 31, 2018.

Superintendent Dr. David Harnish said, “I will personally miss working with Sarah as she was a valued board member”.

A new board member will be appointed at the Sept. 18 Board of Education meeting after applicants are interviewed by the board.

Those interested in filling the vacancy should send a cover letter and resume including mention of any former experience and community involvement by September 1, 2017 to Dr. David Harnish, c/o Martin Public Schools, 1556 Chalmers Street, Martin MI 49070.”

Mrs. Brenner moved to the district 31 years ago after marrying her husband, Raymond, a lifelong resident of Martin. They raised their six children on Bren-Way Farms, the family-owned business in Shelbyville. All six of the Brenners’ children graduated from Martin High School.

Sarah was born and raised in Plainwell, where she graduated from high school in 1979.

The Brenners also are grandparents to Kaylee Grace and Alaina Lynn. She is a homemaker and bookkeeper for Bren-Way Farms.
