Lady Vikings win 4 of 6 matches at Saranac Invitational

The Hopkins varsity volleyball team won four of six matches Saturday at the Saranac Invitational.

The Lady Vikings defeated Tri Unity 25-8, 25-15 and Grand River Prep 25-18, 25-23 in pool play to move on to double elimination bracket competition. There they beat Grand Rapids Union 25-9, 25-11 and Newaygo 25-13, 22-25, 15-11, but then lost to host Saranac 25-12, 25-19 and finally were eliminated by Newaygo 23-25, 25-22, 15-9.

In individual statistics, Nicole Pitsch dished out 114 assists; Meghan Schulz had 38 kills, Macy Arndt 32, Brianna Miller 31, Ashley Bultema 15 and Mikayla Bulich 14; Schulz and Bulich both had 6 blocks, Brianna Miller 2; Miller had 16 serving aces, Nicole Pitsch 11, Ashley Bultema 6, and Hailey Shank came up with 56 digs, Pitsch 36, Miller 21, Bulich and Bultema 20 apiece.

Hopkins’ overall record now is 21-12-2 and the team is 2-1 in the O-K Silver Conference.
