It was an impressive basketball season opener for the Lady Clippers Tuesday night, as the team maintained a huge lead for the entire game and posted a 59-16 triumph over Potter’s House.

Martin’s girls in the early going scored all of the points until late in the second quarter when Bianca Jabateh hit a three-pointer for Potter’s House. But the home team coasted throughout much of the contest.

Jaclyn Hildebrand led the Clippers with 19 points and Faith Guritz racked up 14.

Coach Doug MacVean said he was proud of his team

“They did a great job tonight. Now we focus on Friday,” he said.

The Martin junior varsity girls had a closer match, edging the Pumas 27 to 23. The all-freshman squad had a slow start, but gained momentum in the second half. This was the first win for newly-hired head Coach Brenda Ritchie.

The Lady Clippers will travel Friday evening to battle a Southwest Athletic Conference rival, the Galesburg-Augusta Rams.
