Longtime truck driver Gary Edema of Hilliards dies at 53

Gary M. Edema, of Hilliards, age 53, died Wednesday, Dec. 13.

Gary drove truck for SET Environmental, formerly Valley City, for 29 years.  He was a dedicated, skilled and safe driver. When he got home from work, he loved spending time with his Princess, Jenna.

He enjoyed working on tractors and tractor pulls, especially with his son, Gary. He loved being out in the country.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Edema (Kiel); his children Gary and Jenna Edema; his mother, Ruth (Nyssen) Edema; his sisters Nancy (Russ) Brown, Shari (Brian) Kammeraad, Susan (Steve) Lovell; Cheryl’s parents, Don and Louise Kiel; Cheryl’s siblings John and Ron Kiel; and his aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Gary J. Edema.

 

A time for relatives and friends to visit with Gary’s family will be from 2 to 3:30 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15, with a vigil prayer service at 3:30 p.m.at Kubiak-Cook Funeral Services in Dorr, 4330 18th St. The funeral will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, 1871 136th Ave. in Dorr.

Family final viewing and prayers will be at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Saturday prior to the funeral at church. Father Christopher Derda will officiate. Interment will be at St. Stanislaus Cemetery.

In honor of Gary, contributions may be made to the family for final expenses.
