Hopkins Concert Choir qualifies for state festival in May

The Hopkins High School Concert Choir earned a Division 1, “excellent” rating Tuesday at the District Choral Festival at East Grand Rapids High School.

The choral students performed two pieces and sight-read for a panel of adjudicators/judges. The choir received a variety of comments, which highlighted both areas of potential improvement, as well as strengths within their performances.

The high ratings qualify the group to participate in State Choral Festival in early May this year.

“This accomplishment, in large, is due to the high level of dedication, drive, and determination that the students have shown over the past six months,” a spokesperson said. “It is also important to highlight that this group’s accomplishment is only the second time in nearly 20 years that the Hopkins Concert Choir has qualified for state.”

Hopkins Concert Choir members also plan to travel to New York City in March.
