Memorial plaque to honor longtime Martin Fire Chief

A special plaque to honorGil Gilson longtime Martin Township Fire Chief Gil Gilson will be placed by the siren in front of the township hall.

The longtime owner of Martin Hardware, he was a businessman downtown for 62 years and served on the fire department for 52 years, the last 17 as chief. He died in 2014.

His son, Jodie Gilson, asked the Township Board to fund the purchase and installation of the plaque, which will cost $710. The Township Board agreed to pay for half the cost and Watson Township and the Village of Martin will contribute one-quarter apiece.

Gilson told board members Wednesday evening he hopes to have the plaque in place by Memorial Day.
