Lady Wildcat bowlers reach double figures in overall season victories

Reverse Wildcat logoThe Wayland girls’ bowling team lifted its overall season record to 10-5-3.5 overall and 7.5-2.5 in the league play this season Monday afternoon with a 17-13 victory over Middleville Thornapple Kellogg.

“Many of the girl’s had a chance to bowl tonight and gain some much needed experience,” said coach Bill Holbrook. “It is tough to be consistent when they are bowling so many matches in a row.  There is no time to work on their game so if they get in a bit  of a funk you have to just ride it out and hope a couple of adjustments will get them jump started.

“The Lady Wildcats did not bowl very good tonight but bowled well enough to take the win.”

Pacing the Lady Wildcats tonight were freshman Marissa Bruinsslot (166-114=280) and junior Aubree Hodges (140-110=250).

The Lady Wildcats lost the first Baker game 129-118, won the second 148-124 and won Baker total 266-253 for a 6-4 lead heading into individual games. Wayland won the first individual game 675-497 and took 8 of 9 points for a 14-5 lead.  After wholesale substitutions for the last game, the Lady Wildcats lost the second individual game 612-527 but hung on for totals 1202-1109 and only took 3 of the last 11 points, but it was enough for the win.

Next up for the Lady Wildcats is a home match Tuesday vs. Ottawa Hills.
