The United Church of Wayland will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the merger of the local Congregational Church and Christian Church Disciples on Heritage Sunday, Sept.19.
The service will be at 10 am with a hors d’oeuvre reception to follow. The Rev Kyle Carnes, interim pastor, along with clergy and musicians who have served over the years, will lead worship.
The service will focus on thanking God for what He has done through this congregation and honoring those who dedicated themselves to that mission.
The two Wayland congregations, the First Congregational Church and the Disciples of Christ Church, voted on June 14, 1971, to become one church, forming the United Church of Wayland.
Plans for a new church building began immediately and that building was dedicated in 1975. It is located at 411 East Superior Street in Wayland.
