Dorr Township Clerk Debbie Sewers told the Township Board Thursday night she expects a recount for the Nov. 3 general election.
“I’m speculating there will be a recount (of the presidential race),” she said. “I’ve received a lot of questions about the integrity of this election. I’m constantly being asked about voter fraud.”
Sewers said she sent out 1,984 absentee ballots to residents who requested them. Voting by mail has come into question by President Donald Trump, who has maintained voter fraud will be the result.
In other business at Thursday night’s meeting, the Township Board:
- Was told representatives from the Sustainable Business Park will be on hand at the December meeting to further explain plans for the facility in the northeast corner of the township.
- Approved plans to seek bids for reconstruction next summer of 16th Street between 142nd and 140th Avenues. The Allegan County Road Commission has estimated the cost at $568,396.70.
- Agreed to remove Dorr Township from double billing by Consumers Energy for street lighting on Woodside Meadows, a private road. Residents will be refunded $43 each for the error.
- Adopted the proposed ordinance amendment to reduce side yard setbacks, as recommended by the Planning Commission.
- Was told by Fire Chief Gary Fordham that this year’s Halloween open house has been canceled because of the Covid-19 virus threat.
- Received a report from Treasurer Jim Martin, a member of the Citizens Road Committee, that though Covid canceled many road projects in 2020, there are plans to resume repaving next year.
- Noted the next meeting in November will be Thursday, Nov. 19, instead of Nov. 26 because of the Thanksgiving holiday.
- Approved the contract with Assessor Michael Richmond at $2,700 per month for the next 3.5 years.
Voter fraud in Dorr Township?
That’s funny. Nearly everyone is either somehow related, go to the same churches or they, their kids and sometimes grandchildren have gone to the same grade schools and high schools. There aren’t “Six Degrees of Separation” in Dorr Township. It’s more often like three or four.
Are observers going to insist on matching every signature? Something that’s never been done in the township’s history.
When you think this election can’t get more convoluted, the situation in Dorr Township proves we ain’t seen nuthin’ yet.

Your description of the residents of Dorr Township just sounds like a close knit community. Which at one time was probably very true.
It really isn’t today times have changed. Will there be a recount? It’s possible, but there has been a recount a few times in Dorr’s history so it would not be shocking. Just a total waste of taxpayer dollars.
Yup, every time you have ballots go out of sight of poll workers, there is always chances for fraud.
Count on it this election since the Demorats are unhinged!
