Green bean casserole recipe traditional holiday favorite

by Kathy Hamman Miller

This is a favorite Green Bean Casserole recipe, it’s been around at family gatherings forever and for a good reason. There is, however, a holiday seasoning blend I’d like to share with you that enhances the flavor of this recipe and others you will be making over the holidays.

Holiday seasoning blend

2 Tablespoons Salt
2 Tablespoons Sugar
1/2 Teaspoon Paprika
1/4 Teaspoon Turmeric
1/4 Teaspoon Onion powder
1/4 Teaspoon Garlic powder
1/4 Teaspoon Sage
Mix together and store in air tight container. This blend actually reminds me of Lawry’s  but with a slightly earthier taste. For those of you who need to cut down on your salt intake, the amount can be lowered or eliminated. Shake before using.

Green Bean Casserole

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Double recipe for a cake pan size.
Drain 2 cans of green beans, your choice of whole cut or French style.
Mix together with 1 can of cream of mushroom soup.
Add 1/4 cup of the small pieces of a 6 ounce container of French’s crispy fried onions and blend into the creamed mixture saving the rest for the topping.
2/3 cup of evaporated milk
A half teaspoon of the holiday seasoning blend.

Place in casserole dish and bake for 25 minutes. Remove from oven and top with the remaining fried onions, returning to oven for 10 more minutes or until onions are crispy and heated through. Enjoy!
