Lady Wildcats take 6th at Hudsonville bowl tourney

The Wayland girls’ varsity bowling team placed sixth Saturday in the Hudsonville Invitational Tournament.

“I can’t be more proud of this group of ladies today,” coach Eric Bottrall said. “The improvements that they are all making in such a short time is simply incredible. They did fall short of making the cut but put up some amazing baker scores to give them a chance to make the top four. Everyone bowled today and made contributions.”

High individual games by the ladies were rolled by Sarisa Cawley 98, Haley Taylor 170, Breanna Hyde 142, Bella Harnish 178 and Kadence Bottrall 229.

The Lady Wildcats shot baker games of 192, 159, 200 and 151. They got to bowl on the same lanes with last year Division 1 State champ, Zeeland.

“It was good for our ladies to bowl with such a talented group of ladies,” the coach added. “We will get there with time, dedication and grit!”

The boys’ team struggled early at the invitational Saturday with a high game of only 137.

“It was definitely our season low,” coach Sherry Miklusicak said. “We weren’t rolling the ball that poorly, as we had quite a few decent shots, but we just needed to pick up some spares. Even the coach from a very good Zeeland team commented on the great form our bowlers have!”

The second game was much better.

Stephen Harnish had a career high game of 221. “Stephen has make drastic improvements since the first week. He is working hard on spares and once he gets those mastered, watch out!” Another bowler who has really turned it on this year is Mark Musgrave III, who rolled a 202 game. Alan Beggs, Deven Gardner and Max Oosterhouse rounded out the Wildcat five bowlers.
In baker games today, Wayland’s five really bowled as a team. Max Oosterhouse
went 5 for 8, as did Deven Gardner and Mark Musgrave. Steven Harnish led the team in baker games and went 6 for 8.
The Wayland boys and girls take on Ottawa Hills Monday afternoon. Wednesday the boys will field a full squad at Spectrum Lanes against South Christian.
