Both Hopkins and Wayland boys’ hoops teams are 1-3

The Hopkins and Wayland basketball teams both saw their overall season records slip to 1-3 Tuesday night with defeats at the hands of league opponents.

Wayland was throttled 74-28 by undefeated South Christian, an O-K Gold Conference foe, and Hopkins dropped a 41-38 decision to O-K Silver opponent Comstock Park.

Further details were not available.

Hopkins will be at home Friday evening against Belding. Wayland will play at Comstock Park Thursday.

  • A brief look at the OK Gold — this season will go fast — Catholic Central beat South Christian at the buzzer with a ‘Christian Laetner turnaround’ three pointer with 1.2 seconds on the clock. So CC 4-0, SC and Ottawa Hills 3-1, but that will sort itself out on Friday as the Bengals play at South Christian. The Sailors should be favored over OHHS.

Rematch between CC & SC will be at the Sailors new gym on 2/27.

Then comes everyone else. Forest Hills Eastern and Kenowa Hills are 2-2, Wayland and TK 1-3.
Probably FHE will finish 3rd ahead of Ottawa Hills, but I think all of these teams are well matched so no result would surprise me. And really Ottawa should be considered in this donnybrook category. They had a 4 point home win against Wayland, a three point win against Cedar Springs, and an overtime win at Cedar Springs by three.

And it looks like Cedar Springs will lay claim to the cellar, as the Red Hawks are 0-4 and play at CC on Friday.

Note — at this time I have not seen Wayland or Cedar Springs play. And for those unfamiliar with me, I have been doing the stats for GR CC since 1976.
