Wayland boys get a little advice from girls’ coach Eric Bottrall (center).
The Wayland boys’ varsity bowling team learned the value of taking the baker games and claimed an 18-12 victory Wednesday over league rival Forests Hills Eastern.
The Lady Wildcats won as well, taking a 22.5 to 7.5 triumph over the Hawks.
“We have been focused on that the last several matches,” said boys’ coach Sherry Miklusicak. “Forest Hills Eastern bowled way above their average this afternoon, but fortunately we bowled better!”
Taking points in match one were Chandler Caruso and Tyler Omness. Alan Beggs had the high game of 193, but was matched up with a tough opponent.
The Wildcats lost total by only 28 pins.
“That is very close when you are talking about five combined scores! That is just about six extra pins per person.”
In match two, Caruso again took his match point as did Alan Beggs. Fortunately Wayland took total as well, but this time by only two pins. It came down to the last bowler of the tenth frame. Junior Mark Musgrave III
needed a double for the win.
“I don’t know if he was aware of that or not, but good karma was on our side tonight,” the coach said. “His last ball pretty much just needed to stay on the lanes.
“We are proud of how hard the boys are working and progressing. They are taking their time at practice seriously and are pushing themselves out of their comfort zones.
“My daughter’s pitching coach has a huge banner up in his building, ‘If it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you. Those are excellent words to remember!”
