City DPW employee rescued after 30-ft. fall at lift station

A Wayland City Department of Public Works employee Monday afternoon fell in a 30-foot well on Reno Drive, but is expected to recover from injuries.

Wayland and Yankee Springs Fire Departments, Wayland ambulance service and the Aero Med and Tech Rescue team personnel performed the rescue and the employee was air lifted from the scene.

The incident occurred at about 1:30 p.m. not far from Robinson Dental Care.

Wayland police said the employee was working on the wastewater lift station when he fell into the 30-foot pit and hit his head on the way down before getting stuck inside the station.

Rescue personnel reported he was alert and joking with them immediately after the rescue was completed.
