Former Porks grocery co-owner Evelyn Crismon dies

Evelyn Crismon, 93, died Saturday, March 27.

She was born in England on Oct. 1, 1927, to George and Mabel Fowler.

She is survived by her children Shelley (Dave) Holmgren, Georgina “Gigi” (Kevin) Meyer, and Ron (Sharon) Crismon; brother, Edward Fowler; sister, Stella Musspratt; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, “Pork” Crismon and sister, Eunice.

She met her husband, “Pork,” in England during World War ll. They married on Dec. 7, 1949. Together they opened “Porks” Grocery in Burnips in 1962.

“Pork” passed away on May 28, 1975, and Evelyn continued to run the store until her retirement in 1987.

Evelyn was also an avid knitter. She resided at Heritage Nursing Home in Zeeland since 2013.

A private family service will be held at Burnips Cemetery at a later date. In memory of Evelyn, and in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Burnips United Methodist Church, 4241 30th St. Dorr, MI 49323.
