Viking track teams split in O-K Silver double dual meet

The Hopkins boys’ and girls’ track teams split an O-K Silver Conference double dual meet Tuesday, both defeating Comstock Park but losing to Belding.

The boys beat Comstock Park 94-37, but lost 88-49 to Belding. The girls edged Comstock Park 66-61, but lost 88-47 to Belding. Both teams’ record in the league dual meets is 5-3.

The Vikings again performed very well in field events, particularly the throws. Grace Brenner won the shot put but had to settle for second in the discus. Tanner Neuman, Josh Tew and Mason Tomes went one, two, three in the shot and Tomes. Tew, Neuman and Matthew Maule took places two through five in the discus.

Freshman sensation Landen Klinge won the pole vault again at an even twelve feet.

Trevor Shealy captured first in the 200 and was second in the 100-meter dash.

Adam Ball turned in his personal best 11:32.54 to take runner-up in the 3200-meter run, as did freshman Isaac Koperski in the 110-meter hurdles.

For the girls, freshman Sophia Garvin won the 100, freshman Helena Kerber took the 800 and was second in the 1600 and 3200, Kendall Mohr was second in the 200, Jaeden Harshberger was second in the 400, Alex Jackson was second in the 300 hurdles, and Vanessa Barry was runner-up in the long jump.
