The Hopkins varsity softball team survived Delton’s rallies and pulled out a 12-10 non-league victory Friday.
The Lady Vikings shot out to a 5-0 lead in the opening inning and were up 10-3 going into the bottom of the fifth.
Aubrey Russell and Megan Andres both had three hits and Sierra Smith two. Megan Perry drove in three runs and Rachel Black two.
Hopkins collected 15 hits in all, but Perry’s double was the only one for extra bases.
Freshman Dahlia Veldhouse was the winning pitcher, but she needed relief help over the last innings by Sierra Smith, who yielded four runs, but only one was earned.
Hopkins won the other end of the doubleheader by a 5-2 count. The victory lifted the Lady Vikings’ overall season record to 15-10.
