Service is Thursday for Sheryl Visser, 57, of Moline

Sheryl Visser, age 57, of Moline, died Thursday May 20.

Sheryl worked as a bed maker at Sandy Creek Nursing Home and washed pots, pans, and tables at Burger King. She loved to volunteer, helping “”Aunty Em”” with the toddlers during story time at the Leighton Township Library. Retirement came earlier than expected for Sheryl which was at Rustic Market (affiliated with Pine Rest), where she hung up clothes and received a treat at the end of the day (a favorite of M&Ms).

Sheryl took joy in going to the post office in Moline every day via either her “”stingray”” bike, or walking, except Sunday. She even carried her own “”mail bag””. Sheryl was a “social butterfly” and had many friends and did many things with them.

She also loved her church, Moline Baptist, and attended as much as she could. She was part of the Special Friends Club through Moline Christian Reformed Church.

She participated in multiple events at Special Olympics, enjoying each event. She went to several camps; one summer she went to three different camps

She is survived by her siblings, Johannes “”John”” (Pattie) Visser; Coral “”Corky”” (Greg) VanVolkinburg, and Laurie Visser Ruhstorfer; nieces and nephews; Jake (Carie) Van Volkinburg, Hannah (Mark) Birgy, Jennifer (Bob) Clevenger, Matt Van Volkinburg, Camille (Chad) Wetzel, Johnathan DeRooy, Muriel (Keith) Mathieu, Zeke (Joanna) Wieland, Joey Visser, Jedidiah (Brandy) Wieland, Marty Visser; great nieces and nephews; Ford, Tori, Gabe, Rylee, Malakai, Sierra, Jayelyn, Mattias, Hunter, Isaiah, Elisha, Josiah, Eliana, Naomi, Judah, Luana, Leah, Finley, Temperance, Elise, Tabitha and Gideon.

In the Netherlands, Sheryl is survived by her Tante (Aunt) Diny Geul-Visser, cousins, and second cousins. Also, she survived by her “”dad and mom”” Carl and Marge Alverson.

Sheryl was preceded in death by her mom, Coral, many aunts and uncles, and her father, John.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 26, at Moline Christian Reformed Church 4341 Chapple St.

Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Moline Christian Reformed Church with visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. For those who wish to view the funeral service via livestream, one may visit Moline CRC’s facebook page or vimeo.com/zaagman.

Luncheon will follow in the fellowship hall in the basement of the church following the funeral service.

Interment will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, 2894 Patterson Avenue SE, Grand Rapids.
