Hopkins boys 5th, girls 4th in O-K Silver C-C opener

The Hopkins boys’ cross-country team finished fifth in a six-team field Wednesday at Belding in the first O-K Silver Conference jamboree at Belding.

The Lady Vikings took fourth in a five-team group the same day and place,

The Viking boys scored 128 team points and finished ahead of NorthPointe Christian. Grandville Calvin Christian, as usual, took first with 27 points and Sparta was second with 34.

Adam Ball paced Hopkins with a five-kilometer time of 18:31, good for 15th place individually. Caleb Beilby was 30th, freshman Ryan Williams 31st, freshman Kenyon Katje 34th and Nathan Onderlinde 52nd.

Sparta took first in the girls’ meet with 36 points and Calvin Christian had 45. Hopkins had 82, finishing ahead of NorthPointe Christian.

Sophomore Helena Kerber was the top Lady Viking finisher, placing eighth in 21:05.29 and freshman teammate Kambria Moored was only three seconds behind her.

Neveah Helderop was 20th, Jaeden Harshbarger 24th and Abigail Zalis 30th.
