Wildcats claim 1st place trophy in tennis quad here

The Wayland Union boys’ varsity tennis team was host to Hastings, Otsego and Plainwell for a quad meet and came away with the championship.
The Wildcats put together 20 points out of a possible 24 to take the overall tournament trophy.
Each team was to play each other in round robin format, gathering one point for each victory.
Individually, Wayland claimed flight champion medals at second singles (Jackson Chesley), third Singles (Andrew Murphy), fourth singles (Nolan Ritz), second doubles (Mark Musgrave, Austin Graham), third doubles (Cam Sieffert and Theo Oddy), and fourth doubles (Carson Beck and Garrett Spoor).
Elijah Kincaid and Brady Atwell) took flight runner-up honors at first doubles.

“Great tennis was played on all courts at the facility during the match, and fans were not lacking in skill levels to watch,” said coach Ben Adams.

“The Wildcats had an exceptional day, no doubt, but one of the players had an extraordinary day! At fourth singles, Nolan Ritz had a perfect day, not losing a single game in three matches. He managed to win all of his matches 6-0 6-0!! That’s 36 straight games won!”

The coach went on to say, “This is the type of tournament that the community of Wayland built these courts for, and that tennis fans in Wayland deserve. The coaches from visiting schools, fans and players all commented on how nice the facility is and that they would like to be back again.

“Tennis is a great sport to come out and watch on a beautiful, late- spring day!”

The Wildcats head into the teeth of the OK Gold Conference season, facing Grand Rapids Catholic Central today, then Cedar Springs, Middleville Thornapple Kellogg and Forest Hills Eastern all in the next 10 days.
