Viking cross-country teams have rough day at Portage

The Hopkins girls’ cross-country team finished in 35th place among 45 teams that competed Saturday in the Portage Invitational.

The Lady Vikings combined for 878 team points. East Grand Rapids won with 88 Petoskey was second with 120.

Freshman Kambria Moored crossed the finish line first for Hopkins, in 74th place, followed by sophomore Helena Kerber in 84th, Abigail Zalis 209th, freshman Navaya Ingle 243rd and Neveah Helderop 26th.

There were 306 individual runners in the race.

The Viking boys finished 44th among the 46 teams. Grand Rapids Christian won the team competition.

Adam Ball led the way in 173rd, followed by Caleb Beilby, Ryan Williams, Kenyon Katje and Nathan Onderlinde.
