Life celebration in May for Frances VanAllsburg, 93

Frances VanAllsburg, age 93, died Wednesday, Jan. 5.

Frances was born in Prinsburg, MN, where she grew up with six brothers and sisters. She then moved to Michigan to attend Calvin College. She was a strong, loving, independent, beautiful lady who loved her family dearly.

She was extremely proud of all her grandchildren and their accomplishments. Frances enjoyed spending time with family when they would stop by to visit and loved hearing about their busy lives.

She had a love for reading books and looked forward to her trips to the local library to stock up. She also loved doing crossword puzzles, and watching NASCAR races on the weekend.

She was a no-nonsense kind of lady who held her head high. She wasn’t one for having her family fuss over her but secretly enjoyed the love and affection she received.

She is survived by her children Bruce (Sandy) VanAllsburg, Lori Ames, Cheryl (Kevin) Murray, Ray VanAllsburg (Kim Emaus), Wendy (Jerry) Groeneveld; grandchildren Jennifer VanAllsburg (Robert Vogg), David VanAllsburg, Sara Ames, Kevin (Stephanie) Murray Jr., Shaun (Ashley) Murray, Brittany Murray, Jamie VanAllsburg (Dylan Tyler), Mychal VanAllsburg (Sierra Mccue), Zachary Adrianse, Danielle (Tom) James, Haleigh Adrianse (Mason Schaendorf); 19 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her son, Theodore VanAllsburg; husband, Lawrence VanAllsburg; daughter, Debra VanAllsburg.

Her wish was to be cremated so a celebration of her life will be planned around her birthday in May 2022.

  • Frances was one of my all-time favorite library patrons at Henika Library. She was intelligent, quick-witted, interesting, and friendly, always with a twinkle of mischief in her eyes!
She was truly a woman ahead of her times, and I admired her greatly.
This world is less well off now that you are gone. Rest in peace, dear, dear Frances.
