Lady Wildcat bowlers still undefeated in league play

The Wayland girls’ varsity bowling team has had perhaps a little too easy time of it when facing O-K Gold Conference opponents.

The Lady Wildcats came up with a 27-3 victory Wednesday afternoon over South Christian, which again fielded only three bowlers on its team.

However, the boys’ Sailors squad was fully stocked in posting a 25-5 verdict over the Wayland boys.

The Lady Wildcats jumped out to a quick 10-0 lead by claiming both Baker games.

In the first head-to-head match, high game went to Bella Harnish with a 194 game, followed by Kadence Bottrall’s 177. Also taking a point was Breanna Hyde as Wayland easily took total pins as well.

In the second game, Haven Baker, Bella Harnish (204), and Kadence Bottrall (221) took points and total.

The girls now are 11-1 overall, with their only loss to non-league power Zeeland.

For the lads, freshman Kyle VanEss led both games for the Wildcat boys with games of 165 and 157.

“Those are very good games for a young bowler,” said coach Sherry Miklusicak. “I could see the fire and determination in his eyes. He fought for every shot and didn’t give up or hang his head.”

But Miklusicak also noted, “You absolutely will not win a Baker game with a 94. Ugh, yes there were lane issues and yes we had to move to a new pair of lanes due to a breakdown. The opposing team had the same problem and they didn’t quit.”

Match one was lost by about 50 pins; on a team with five boys that is just 10 pins (one single spare) per game.

Wayland defeated the Sailor boys earlier this season, but that was at its home base at the Rock ‘N Bowl.

Taking points this afternoon were Mark Musgrave, Chandler Caruso who managed to take both points, another point was won by Deven Gardner/Stephen Harnish who combined for the winning point, and the final point was by Aydin Tolliver.
