Laurie Perry appointed treasurer for Dorr Township

The Dorr Township Board Thursday evening voted to appoint Laurie Perry Township Treasurer, at least until Nov. 19 after the general election.

Perry, who officially begins duties March 1, succeeds Myrna Marr, who resigned abruptly last month after being elected to the position in November 2020. Danielle Golembiewski of Bloomingdale has been filling in as interim treasurer since then.

Golembiewski was only appointed as interim because she does not live in the township.

Perry is eligible to file by mid-April for the position and run for it in the August primary and November general election. The term would be for two years.

Clerk Debbie Sewers said four candidates were interviewed for the job earlier this month by a three-member board panel.

In other business at Thursday’s meeting, the board:

• Approved an agreement for curbside recycling services with Arrowaste, which recently bought out Bob’s Disposal.

• Tabled a draft of the new master plan for corrections before sending it to the Planning Commission for perusal.

• Approved an updated mutual aid agreement with the Leighton Fire Department.

• Approved a contract with SWB Enterprises for dust control services, three applications for a total $33,180. Hopkins Township will pay $2,730 for its share.

• Agreed to pay Allegan County Resource and Recovery $9,037 in overage for the year’s curbside recycling. The board also decided to place on the August primary ballot a proposal for $50 per household per year for recycling for 10 years.

• Heard a presentation from Phillip Joseph of the Middleville area, who is a Republican candidate for State Represnetaive 43rd District. He said he’s a little different from other Republicans in the race because “all of my policies will come from biblical principles… I believe our alienable rights come from God.”
