Lady Vikings now 4-0 in O-K Silver softball contests

The Hopkins varsity softball team swept a doubleheader with Sparta Monday, 11-5 and 12-2, to push its record to 4-0 in the O-K Silver Conference and 4-1 overall.

The Lady Vikings won the nightcap despite giving up four runs in the first inning. Hannah Brinks drew a walk, scoring one run in the second frame and they picked up five more runs in a seventh inning rally.

Leading the late rally were singles by Megan Andres, Peyton Roxbury and Lyla Reynolds and an error on a ball put in play by Sierra Smith.

Smith took the win on the mound for Hopkins. The righty surrendered five runs on 11 hits over seven innings, striking out six.

Reynolds, Roxbury and Avery Osborn had two hits apiece for the Vikings.

In the opener, Reynolds collected three hits and drove home four runs. She drove in runs on a single in the first and a double in the sixth.

In the first inning, the Vikings got their offense started when Sierra Smith doubled, scoring one run. They notched five runs in the sixth inning.

The offensive firepower was led by ReynoldsAubrey Russell, and Hannah Brinks, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning. Hopkins had 14 hits in its attack.

Brinks, only a freshman, earned the victory in the pitcher’s circle. She hurled six innings, allowing five hits and two runs while striking out four.

Reynolds, Smith, Peyton Roxbury, Russell, Brinks, and Ava Vanderkolk each had multiple hits.
