Allegan County has no monkeypox cases — so far

Monkey Pox has been identified in Michigan, yet no cases have been confirmed yet in the Allegan County area.
Officials from the Allegan County Health Department have said as vaccine availability continues to evolve, so will the vaccination strategy. Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP++) aims to reach recently exposed persons or persons at high-risk for vaccination, even if they have not had documented exposure to someone with confirmed MPV. When combined with other mitigation measures, PEP++ may slow the spread of disease in areas with MPV transmission.
The Allegan County Health Department is working with people with certain risk factors with high likelihood of exposure to MPV in the last 14 days, seeking the MPV vaccine. Certain risk factors include:
• Individuals engaged in any type of sex work.
• Partners of individuals who engage in higher-risk sexual activities.
• Close/household contacts of individuals who have been exposed to MPV or engaged in higher-risk activities.
• Men who have sex with men and have a history of STI in the last year.
• Individuals who plan to have multiple sex partners.
• Individuals who plan to have close contact at a high-risk event or high-risk venue.
• Individuals taking HIV PreP or those living with HIV.
Monkeypox can spread to anyone through close, personal, often skin-to-skin contact. The Centers for Disease Control recommends the vaccine be given between four and 14 days after the date of exposure. Vaccination may reduce the symptoms of disease, but may not prevent the disease.
If you think you may be eligible for vaccination, you can request the monkeypox vaccine by clicking the button below. You can also contact ACHD at 269-673-5411. The vaccine will be administered during ACHD business hours on a case-by-case basis, and appointment only.

  • Most USA Monkey Pox cases exist in the homosexual “communities” perhaps from their well known behavior. As of now, little be concerned with, well unless you have those proclivities.

    • Oh no, what are you going to do? It looks like leaving the basement is out of the question. You might bump into one of those people out in public. Stay safe “CINO”
