Penny Salisbury retiring from senior volunteer job

Penny Salisbury, who has been volunteer coordinator of the Wayland Community Education Leisure Life program for local senior citizens since 2014, is retiring at the end of this year.

Community Education is looking for her replacement.

“She’s ready to travel and attend the events herself!” said her daughter, Shelly Salisbury Whitley.

Mrs. Salisbury, widow of former Wayland High School teacher and school board member Jeff Salisbury, has been coordinating events for seniors ages 55 and up for the last eight years. Most of the events are held Wednesdays between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., including pizza and bingo events, at the Wayland Transportation Building, 851 Wildcat Drive. She also organizes bus trips.

Anyone interested in taking over volunteer duties at the beginning of next year should call (269) 792-2996 or (616) 446-7591.
