Wildcat boys 2nd again, this time at county meet

The Wayland boys’ varsity cross-country team claimed its customary runner-up slot Friday afternoon at the Allegan County meet at Martin U.S-131 Motorsports Park,

The Hopkins girls took third and Wayland fourth in their race.

Wildcats boys finished with 58 points, second to Otsego’s 26 and ahead of Hamilton’s 65. Hopkins boys placed seventh.

Junior James Butler turned in his finest career performance by taking sixth place in 17:15.62 over the 5,000-meter course. Dylan Pallet, Isaac Dyer and Travis Soon all finished in the top 10, with times of 17:25.55, 17:31.81 and 17:40.17, respectively. Rounding out the scoring was Devin Weaver in 28th place in 18:47.88.

Freshman Jack Estelle paced the Vikings in 19:13.17, good for 35th place. Kenyon Katje was 42 in 19:46.6, Vijay DeZeeuw was 63rd, Johnathan Buskirk 65th and Brennan Villa 72nd.

Martin had two runners finish in sub-20 times. Freshman Haylen Buell was 39th in 19:32.49 and senior James Blackburn was 43rd in 19:55.56.

Wayland’s Olivia Barabas checked in fifth at 20:18.71 and Nevaeh Helderop of Hopkins was eighth at 20:57.20. Viking junior Jaeden Harshberger was 12th, Kambria Moored 14th, freshman Allison Breining 26th and Abigail Zalis 34th. For Wayland, Noelle House finished 11th, Elliot Antel 17th, Ruby Sidebothan 39th and freshman Megan Stack 41st. Samantha Stone was 45th and Noa Martin-Espinosa 47th for Martin.
