Martin gets sweet revenge vs. Lenawee, going to semis

Martin football fans may have been taken aback by the cost of tickets for the post-season playoff game against Adtrian Lenawee Christian Saturday afternoon. The $9 cost is the same all over the state for such contests.

It’s been a strange season for the Martin eight-man football team.

The Clippers have lost two games this fall, once to undefeated NorthPointe Christian and one by one point to unbeaten Bridgman. But Saturday afternoon they earned sweet revenge, perhaps as good as it gets.

Martin turned the tables on Adrian Lenawee Christian 56-14, defeating a team that ended its season over the past two years. Lenawee bested the Clippers 47-12 in January 2021 to capture the state title and just about a year ago scored a 36-14 decision to win the Cougars’ second consecutive state crown.

But this time things were different.

The game was played this time at Martin after Lenawee enjoyed home field advantage in the previous two showdowns. Both teams brought 8-2 overall records into the ballgame.

Another interesting note is that regional champion Martin now will play in the next round, the state semifinals, against Brown City, a team that has lost only once this fall, to Martin 49-7. And the game once again will be at home.
