Celebration of life delayed for Charlotte Wessels, 63

Charlotte Savinsky Wessels, age 63 of Wayland, died Friday, Dec. 2.

Charlotte was an amazing and loving wife, mother, grandma “Maga” who enjoyed spoiling everyone. She was a wonderful host and cook who filled everyone’s stomachs and souls with her goodness. She enjoyed her time in Michigan and her winters in Florida. She enjoyed shopping trips and dinners out with the grandchildren.

Charlie (Charlotte) was a well-known individual in Wayland and was a friend to all. She was a great big sister to her sister and brothers. She loved and enjoyed her hair and nail salon time and was passing that love on to her granddaughters. She enjoyed creating hanging flower baskets, potted planters, and home decorating.

She was a wedding caterer and coordinator at Orchard Hills Golf Course for many years.

She is survived by her husband of 31 years Joseph C. Wessels; her children Joshua (Amanda) Lyon; Michael Wessels, Jonathan (Kennedy) Wessels; five grandchildren Andrew, Taylor, Emma, Josie, Laurence; her siblings, Sherry (Doug) Adams, Charles (Krista) Savinsky, George (Erika) Savinsky; mother-in-law Dorothy Wessels, sister-in-law Janet (Mark) Bond and brother-in-law Stephen Wessels; many nieces and nephews and extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Doris Savinsky Hahn; her father-in-law Joseph H. Wessels.

Per Charlotte’s wishes, a private family viewing will be held. A public celebration of life gathering will be held after the holidays.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Charlotte’s memory can be made to her favorite charities, Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and the American Heart Association.
