Wildcat guys win easily in hoops at Detroit Country Day, 73-44

The Wayland bAvery SCoys’ basketball team went on the road Saturday afternoon dispatched Detroit Country Day by a 73-44 count at Beverly Hills, Mich.

The victory lifted the Wildcats’ season record to 10-2 overall.

Wayland had no trouble in subduing the Yellowjackets, streaking to a 23-11 lead at the end of the first quarter and 45-17 at intermission. The host team played the visitors pretty much evenly the rest of the way, but it was too late.

Sophomore guard Avery Hudson had the biggest scoring performance of his career thus far by tossing in 26 points. Fellow sophomore Zac Nieuwkoop added 16 points and senior pivot Lacey James a dozen.

Jared Logan and Milan Williams both had 11 points for Detroit Country Day.

Nazir Wallace, son of former Detroit Piston Rasheed Wallace, did not play. Nor apparently did shooting guard Deshawn Lewis.

The Wildcat varsity and junior varsity players were scheduled to take in a Detroit Pistons game at the Palace of Auburn Hills Saturday evening.
