The Leighton Township Board will have a public hearing on a proposed airstrip and development at 6 p.m. Monday, July 10, at the Township Hall.
The Township Planning Commission in April voted 3-2 to recommend against the development by Galloway Landings to develop an airpark and residential development at the northwest corner of 144th Street and Kalamazoo Avenue. The original plan was for a 3,000-foot airstrip for use by up to 25 planes, along with 15 residences. Since then, Clark Galloway has revised it twice because of concerns from neighboring residents. The latest proposal calls for a 2,000-foot airstrip for use by five planes with four residences.Nearby residents have asserted the noise of plane engines would be too disruptive and the planes might endanger area children.
