The United Methodist Church and the United Church of Wayland will offer a joint “Blue Christmas” service at 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17, to encourage expression of grief while remembering those who have passed.

All are invited to attend this ecumenical service at the United Methodist Church, 200 Church St., Wayland.

“Not all of us experience joy in the Christmas season, especially when the loss of a loved one weighs heavily upon us,” a spokesperson for the two churches said.

Each loved one will be remembered and honored during the service.

“It is an important part of the grieving process to take time to remember our loved ones, celebrate the memories we share and honor them in some special way,” said the Rev. Bonnie Simerly of the United Church of Wayland. “This special Blue Christmas service gives us the opportunity to do just that.”

Rev. Simerly and the Wayland United Methodist’s minister, Rev. Jeff Williams, will conduct this service.
