SUMMARY:Electrical blackout planned
DESCRIPTION:Consumers Energy and ITC have a planned blackout scheduled for Thursday\, March 12. \nThe electrical outage will start at 11Pp.m. and affect most of Hopkins and Wayland townships\, as well as the northern parts of Martin and Watson townships. \nElectrical crews need to cut the power to upgrade some high-voltage lines in the area.  The power companies expect the work to take no more than eight hours\, with power restored shortly thereafter. \nConsumers Energy officials stated that they will monitor for extreme cold temperatures.  Should the weather prevent the work from being done\, the power companies have a back-up date of March 19. \nPrior to the outage\, the more than 3\,000 affected customers will receive a postcard from Consumers Energy.

SUMMARY:Winter lock-in\, campout planned at United Church of Wayland
DESCRIPTION:A winter youth lock-in is being planned for for 5 p.m. Saturday\, Feb. 28 to noon Sunday\, March 1.\nGabe and Ashlyn Kerley are organizing the lock-in for children between the ages of 5 and 18. They are welcomed and encouraged to bring a friend who does not attend United Church.\nThe theme is “Winter Camping.” Those who have a tent that can be set up without stakes are asked to bring it along (The church has a few extras).  They will be set up in the fellowship hall. An Alaska-style picnic\, cooking hot dogs and making s’mores over a campfire out in the snow will be held (bring warm clothes!)  There will be games indoors and out\, there will be crafts and art activities to do\, and there will be a movie to enjoy. At some point\, the tents will be for sleeping .\nOn Sunday morning the kids will participate in the service by presenting an art project they worked on during the lock-in. They will also fill the rolls of greeters\, ushers\, liturgists\, lay leaders\, etc.\nThe church is seeking donations of $10 to cover the cost of food and supplies\, ($15 a family)\, but this is just a suggestion\, not a requirement. \n“Gabe and Ashlyn Kerley said they would prefer not to have anyone feel excluded because of the cost\, so please understand this is just a free-will donation\, especially in the case of friends who are not part of our church\,” said a church spokesperson.\nThose interested in taking part are asked to contact the church at (269) 792-2155 so church personnel understand how many to plan for. Bring a sleeping bag or blankets and pillow: optional\, a pad or air mattress to sleep on; tent if you have one (one that doesn’t use stakes to set up); pajamas; winter coat\, boots\, gloves\, hats\, scarf\, etc.\, and a change of clothing for Sunday morning.
