Fire destroyed a utility barn Friday morning after the structure caught fire in Leighton Township near Caledonia.
No one was reported injured but the barn and its contents were a total loss, Leighton Township firefighters indicated. They were called to scene at about 10 a.m. on 108th Street at the border between Allegan and Kent counties. The barn’s plastic canopy and the hay fed the fire and made it extremely difficult to extinguish over the two-hour ordeal.
Cause and origin were not determined immediately afterward.
Fire crews from Byron Township, Cutlerville, Dutton, Caledonia, Thornapple and Wayland assisted with fighting the fire.
