Funeral Friday in Allegan for Mary Lou Brennan, 89

Mary Lou Brennan, 89, of Wayland, formerly of Allegan, died Friday, Nov. 12, at the home of her daughter, Marla.

She was born in what is now the City of Wyoming, to Alvin Belden and Olive Sharpless Belden. She enjoyed bowling, helping with Dollars for Scholars, and was a long-time member of South Monterey United Methodist Church, where she directed the choir for many decades.

A 1950 Allegan High School graduate, she worked at various jobs, including The Flashes and in later years “calling BINGO” at ACMCC.

She was the wife of the late Raymond G. Brennan, whom she married, Nov. 18, 1950, in Hopkins. Ray preceded her in death in 2009. Also, preceding her in death, along with her parents, were her brothers: Donald Belden, and DeVere (Jerry) Belden.

Surviving are her five children and their spouses: Michael (Crystal) Brennan of Allegan, Terry (Anna) Brennan of Plainwell, David Brennan of Allegan, Timothy (Robert Sliwoski) Brennan of Fennville, and daughter, Marla Brennan of Wayland. Also surviving are her sister, Phyllis (James) Thomas, and sister-in-law, Emma Essenburgh, both of Allegan. Numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends also survive.

Friends may visit with the family from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18, at Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel. The service will take place at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 19, with visitation for one hour prior. Interment will be in Poplar Hill Cemetery.

At the request of the family, please plan to practice social distancing and wear masks at the visitation and service.
