Funeral will be Thursday for Greg Vanklompenberg

Greg Vanklompenberg of Dorr died Friday, March 24, at Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo. He was 46 years old.

Greg was born Oct. 23, 1976, in Grand Rapids, the son of Glen and Marie Vanklompenberg, and grew up in Dorr, where he went to school and graduated from Hopkins High School and from the Future Farmers of America(FFA). Greg also achieved recognition as an Eagle Scout.

After high school Greg worked at various dairy farms in the area, he also did some masonry work before he went to work for PJ Tubing where he was a CNC Machinist. When he wasn’t working, he was involved with the Allegan County 4-H as one of its leaders for more than 20 years. He also enjoyed going to 4-H shows at the Allegan County Fair, where his kids showed the animals they raised.

Greg loved sitting at the table with his family joking around. His kids loved his sense of humor. He also went to many auctions and flea markets where he often found “quality merchandise.” Greg also enjoyed working in his garden. What gave him the best enjoyment was walking in parades with his mini-horses and draft ponies. He also built many wagons for his family so they all could use the horses and ponies to pull them.

He is survived by his wife Rachael, whom he married on Aug. 19, 2000 at the family farm in Dorr. Also surviving are his ”brats” Makayla(Jeremy Arndt) Vanklompenberg, Matt(Olivia Jannert) Vanklompenberg, Mackenzie “Princess” (Max Thomas) Vanklompenberg, Madison Vanklompenberg, and Marshall Vanklompenberg; his extended family, Pete, Barb and Karen Percival. He is also survived by his four siblings, along with many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday March 29. His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday March 30, with Comer Skinner officiating, at the Bloomingdale Chapel of the D.L. Miller Funeral Home. Burial will immediately follow at Tucker Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorials be made to the Hopkins FFA Alumni.
