George “Sjoerd” Peereboom, founder and owner of a greenhouse business in Leighton Township died Sunday, Dec. 1. He was 86.
George was born Nov 29, 1938, in Friesland, Netherlands. He immigrated to the USA through Hoboken, N.J. There he was given the name George. He always wished he had kept his Friesian name Sjoerd.

George loved growing plants, starting with his dairy farm in New Jersey to his greenhouses and gardens in Michigan. He had a generous heart for anyone in need and loved serving others. George had an infectious personality and sense of humor. He could make new friends anywhere and truly enjoyed visiting with old friends.
Losing an arm in a farm accident did not slow him down from enjoying many hobbies, including, but not limited to, bowling and golf. Serving areas in need through CRC World Renew in disaster areas was also a passion.
George is surviveded by his wife, Ellen; sons Case (Jan), Andy, Gerald (Melinda); daughter, Irene; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; seven brothers and two sisters; many in-laws; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Cornelius and Simkje, and his brother, Piet.
