Gun Lake Tribe activist Sharon Near’s funeral will be noon Friday

Sharon Rose Near, age 63 5685480_300x300of Shelbyville, died at home under hospice care Monday, Jan. 4.

Sharon is survived by her husband George Near; her children: Rebecca (Don) Baker and Billy Weber; her grandchildren: Dominik, Haven, and Donavin Baker; her brothers and sister: Gordon Sprague, Clarence Sprague, Dale Sprague, Laurie Sprague-Hinmon, Phillip Sprague; and many nieces and nephews.

Sharon was a proud member of the Gun Lake Tribe and was active with the Elders and Diabetic programs. She was a lifetime member of the Bradley Indian Mission Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents Allen and Leona (Theodore) Sprague and infant sisters Patty and Judy Sprague

Friends may visit with Sharon’s family from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, at the Kubiak-Cook Funeral Services, Wayland. Services will be at noon Friday at the Luella Collins Community Center, 419 126th Ave., Shelbyville, with Pastor Nancy Boelens officiating. Interment will follow at Bradley Indian Mission Cemetery.
