Lady Vikings remain unbeaten in O-K Silver Conference standings

Hopkins routed Belding Wednesday afternoon in an O-K Silver Conference doubleheader to improve its league softball record to 7-0.

The Lady Vikings mercied Belding 15-1 and 15-0, also to lifts its overall season record to 9-4.

Sophomore Hannah Brinks hurled five innings in the opener, limiting the Black Knights to four hits, walking none and striking out 10.

She was well supported by an 11-hit attack, with herself, Ava Vanderkolk, Avery Osborn and Madison Washburn collecting two apiece.

Vanderkolk and Lyla Reynolds both stroked a double and Reynolds drove home three runs.

The game was shortened to five innings when Hopkins played seven runs to invoke the mercy rule.

Dahlia Veldhouse, who was the go-to pitcher two years ago as a freshman before she suffered an injury, seemed to be back in form in the nightcap. She twirled a four-hit shutout over four innings, walking no one and striking out two.

So none of the Belding hitters got a free pass all afternoon.

The Vikings’ offense again drilled 11 hits, with Jessi Spray getting three of them and Reynolds and Cami Hibma coming up with two each.

Reynolds, Avery Osborn and Spray belted a double apiece and Reynolds once again collected three RBIs, as did Spray.
