Second free summer meals program serves nearly 9,000 kids

The second Wayland Union schools’ summer “Fusummer_meal_kidsntastic” free meals program served 8,813 free meals this summer.

The meal sites included Steeby Elementary, Sawmill Estates, United Church of Wayland, the Moline softball park, the community room at Windsor Woods Estates mobile home park, the Henika District Library and the Wayland City Park.

Sponsors were Clark Hill, Triangle Associates, Wayland Union Education Foundation, Chartwell’s, Reno Agency, Wayland Chamber, House Chiropractic, Northern Physical Therapy, United Bank, Tower Pinkster, GRBS, Ed Koehn Ford, Wayland Hardware, and Pro Mow.

Community partners were Henika Library and the United Church of Wayland.

The free meals are part of the “Eat Up Meet Up” summer meal program and it was the second year it has been held over the summer for children under 18 years old.
