Is revenge on the minds of the Wayland varsity softball team this week?

The Wildcats Monday inched closer to yet another O-K Gold Conference championship by sweeping Grand Rapids Catholic Central and today they’ll be on their home field to take on the only league team they’ve lost to over more than a few years — Middleville Thornapple Kellogg. Then Friday they’ll play against the only team to beat them this year — Division 1 No. 6-ranked Jenison.

After that, coach Cheri Ritz’s crew will meet up with Forest Hills Eastern, currently in second place in the Gold standings, and prepare for the district tournament at Hopkins against South Christian.

The Wildcats posted a couple of shutouts Monday against Catholic Central.

They won 14-0 in the first game, with Emma Ludema hurling six innings and delivering nine strikeouts. Leading the offensive attack was Kaelyn Sikkema, going 3-for-3, with a double.  Collecting two hits in the contest, was Kami Morse, with a double. Liberty Laker, Hannah Rairigh, Kennedy Cole and Emma Ludema, with a each smacked a double.

Wayland took the nightcap 16-0. Leading the attack were Hannah Rairigh, going 2-for-2, with a double, and Grace Kincaid, with two singles.  Kami Morse had a triple, Emma Tornes, a double, Rya VanderKooi a single and Jada Mohon a single apiece.

Harmony Laker took the victory on the mound, allowing only one hit.

Wayland’s overall record now is 23-1, 10-0 in the O-K Gold.
