Wayland Kiwanis to sponsor Gingerbread House contest Dec. 4

The Wayland Gingerbread ContestKiwanis Club will sponsor a Gingerbread House Contest during Wayland’s annual Art Hop celebration Friday, Dec. 4.

A Kiwanis spokesperson said, “We are seeking registrations to enter gingerbread houses. Deadline to register is Nov. 25. You don’t need to make your house by Nov. 25, just pre-register.”

There are three age categories: 9-12 years, 13-17 years and adults 18 and older. Those who register will have a chance to win a blue ribbon or one of three $25 gift cards handed to the winning entry in each category. The houses will be on display and for voting during Art Hop inside the Wayland Fire Station.

Proceeds will benefit Project Hope and Kiwanis Kids programs.

GINGERBREAD HOUSE COMPETITION RULES

  • One Gingerbread House per participant.
  • All entries must be in the form of a house.
  • Please include your name and Gingerbread House title in a visible place on the base.
  • All Gingerbread Houses must be 100 percent edible candy/embellishments/materials except the base board and candy wrappers. Non-edible support structure material other than the baseboard may not be used.
  • All houses must be placed on a plywood board base not exceeding 20”x20”. Cardboard bases will not be accepted.
  • No artificial interior materials, such as Styrofoam, are to be used to construct or decorate the house.
  • Non-edible decorations, such as paint, ribbon, figurines, etc. may be used ONLY to decorate your base.
  • A list of materials used to create your Gingerbread House along with a title and brief description should be submitted with your entry.
  • Completed entries must be submitted at the Wayland City Fire Department at 4:30 p.m. on December 4.
  • Items must be picked up by 9 p.m.
  • Voting will take place from 5-8 p.m.
  • Voting will take place through monetary donations. Jars will be placed in front of each entry; $1 minimum per vote, no limit is set; amount of total contributions (votes) will determine the winning entry.

      Perhaps you could call the Main Street program and Director Ingrid Miller or the Wayland Area Chamber of Commerce.
